MAKGADIKGADI & BUSHMEN SAFARI
You’ll begin your journey in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, reached by road from Maun. These Switzerland-sized salt pans are the world’s largest, and its Boteti River is an essential lifeline for the wilderness that lives here.
You’ll join the Bushmen on an authentic walking safari (a car is available if desired) in this astonishing landscape, as you learn how to track animals and parse clues from the noises of the bush. Come evening, sleep wild beneath a blanket of stars.
On to the Kalahari Game Reserve—a stark landscape characterized by arid plains and cheetahs. It’s also home to the San people who have acquired intricate bushcraft skills while living for over 20,000 years in this harsh environment.
As you embark on game drives in open Land Rovers, your guides will share their knowledge of the flora and fauna, before a Bushman walk takes you close to the face of the Kalahari Desert to understand how the San have survived here.
In Deception Valley—so-called for the mirage which causes the valley to appear to be filled with water—you’ll delight in the tangibility and deliciousness of the fresh picnic awaiting you here. The Kalahari Game Reserve is an internationally recognized Important Birding Area, so while you dine keep alert for remarkable and rare avian specimens.
