LIUWA PLAINS & BATS
You’ll begin your epic Zambian adventure in Liuwa Plains in the west of the country. Alongside leading conservationists, you’ll track cheetah and hyena across this unspoiled wilderness.
After learning about the Zambia Carnivore Program, you’ll accompany its representatives and tag, track and monitor an animal. Zambia is home to the planet’s second largest wildebeest migration and you’ll witness this incredible sea of creatures on land or from inflatable kayaks.
See the park from above in a helicopter tour, touching down beside lagoons to photograph exotic birdlife, alighting for secluded picnics, and watching the Munde as they spearfish.
On to a unique natural phenomenon, in this case, the incredible bat migration of pristine Kasanka National Park. Some eight million fruit bats blacken the sky as they return to feed in a remarkably small space. You’ll head into the forest canopy with ladders to be amid this incredible experience, listening to the almost overwhelming screeching as eagles swoop into the cloud of bats.
SOUTH LUANGWA & LUWI RIVERBED
Into the wild mopane woodland of South Luangwa National Park, where the Luangwa River winds peacefully through grassy plains. Take a walking safari alongside an expert guide, learning about the region’s smaller creatures and how the walking safari concept (of blending in with the landscape rather than just observing it) has its origins here.
Switch to 4x4s for wonderful game drives, discovering the park’s unpredictability and remarkable biodiversity. You’ll also venture out at night to discover the nocturnal world of South Luangwa, before sleeping beneath the stars in an enchanting spot on the Luwi Riverbed. You’ll enjoy a traditional braai, with the smell of the grilled meat rising into the air, before retiring behind a mosquito net for an incredible unornamented stay in the wild.
