Later leave the urban limits for a stunning hike up the volcano’s flanks before speeding back down on sandboards.

Travel south into lake country, their tranquil waters edged with lush rainforest. Trek up the Masaya Volcano and look down upon the flowing lava contained within its Santiago crater.

On to another crater, this time the Laguna de Apoyo—a lagoon of translucent water contained within the verdant crater of the Apoyo Volcano. Hike the trails around here, disturb the warm waters for a swim, kayaking expedition, or even sink down into the depths with a scuba dive.

Freckled with over 300 untouched islands and islets, Lake Nicaragua is a vast and lovely lake to contemplate.
