Experience Colorado Cat Skiing

Embark upon an epic cat skiing adventure accessing untouched spaces in Colorado’s snow-swaddled mountains. A state synonymous with powder skiing, its high elevation and chilly temps result in some of the lightest snow in the US.

When to go:
February – March

Discover the unrivaled powder and sky-scraping mountain vistas of Colorado. Situated in the West Elk mountain range, the town of Irwin welcomes 38ft of snow every ski season, three times that of neighboring Crested Butte, resulting in seriously deep powder accessible only by snowcat.

Have a taste of the excellent conditions with a day’s piste skiing through immaculately groomed runs, before retiring to the comfort of your mountain lodge before tomorrow’s epic adventure.

Awake in the morning to find a custom-designed snowcat waiting to deliver you to more than a thousand acres of exclusive ski terrain.

The snowcat will drop you at the foot of Scarp Ridge situated at 11,800 feet. Skin up nearly 1000 feet to the summit of Mount Emmons for panoramas of the Elk Mountains glowing in the morning sunshine, before gliding down through the pristine powder.

With such diverse terrain, there really is a way for everyone to revel in the incredible powder conditions. The open alpine bowls, steep narrow chutes, and tight tree skiing beckon the advanced skiers, and some cliffs and rock bands offer the enticing opportunity of catching between 5-40 feet of air. Meanwhile, the low-wide angle runs are ideal for more casual skiers.

With just your group and the mountains for company, the remote location delivers a rare sensation of wild preserve and solitude. Your Pelorus guides will find the terrain catering to everyone’s specific skill levels and desires. Protected trees and glades provide for better visibility, especially on the stormy days that result in that famous featherlight snowfall.

After a day spent skiing fresh tracks through epic untouched powder, warm up with a delicious lunch by a crackling fire in the traditional mountain cabin Scarp Ridge Lodge. Knowing the importance of being well-fuelled to tackle challenging off-piste, gourmet meals are served throughout the trip with family-style dining to five-course menus.

Share your tales of the best runs of the day over an indulgent après-ski with friends and family. Sip Old Fashioneds by the fire or in a steamy open-air hot tub as the still nights draw in.

Irwin’s powder and the sheer natural beauty you’ll find here is an experience not to be missed. Accompanied by your expert guides, you will discover the deepest powder runs and freshly covered wide open alpine bowls of the Elk Mountains, representing some of the best off-piste anywhere in the world. You’ll carve fresh tracks at every turn as you create exhilarating memories.
