HERO Accommodation at Arctic Hideaway in Norway

LOCATION

High up on Norway’s crinkled west coast, the Arctic Hideaway is hidden among the many islands and islets of the Fleinvaer Archipelago.

These modern and stripped-back eco-cabins are raised up on steel columns to offer superb perspectives over the island-spotted seas. The cabins (of varying sizes) offer sustainable wood surrounds, beds, huge windows, and little else. There are various communal spaces, a chill-out cabin with music, and an open pantry if you’re self-catering.

While Sorvaer Island, where cars and shops have yet to be invented, is also without catering services, talented chefs can be summoned from nearby Bodo to create all meals including wine-paired three-course dinners making excellent use of the plentiful fresh seafood. The Arctic Hideaway is available for exclusive hire.

WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?

Havard Lund, the jazz musician, and composer who designed the Arctic Hideaway, intended for it to be a space for creative thinking and contemplation.

The peacefulness you’ll find on this island, with its sea-salty breezes and views over islets and sea to imposing black mountains, is rare and wonderful. Intersperse the contemplation with some of the retreat’s menu of experiences including fishing tours, bird watching, and rock climbing.
