taylor river lodge colorado usa

Half an hour from upscale ski heaven, Crested Butte, Taylor Ridge Lodge brings the trout-rich River Taylor front and center. Another natural landscape that draws superlatives, the Taylor is renowned for its trout fishing.

This off-the-grid property comprises six cozy cabins and two larger private lodges, all constructed from locally-sourced timber. The modern fittings and furniture in the rooms handsomely complement the dark wood.

Each interior retains its 1940s board and chink bones but has been redesigned with en-suite bathrooms and personal steam showers. The furnishings mingle the international with the local, pairing Moroccan rugs and Indian block-printed pillows with vintage finds, such as hickory wood rocking chairs and antler-framed mirrors.

The main lodge boasts indoor and outdoor log fires with plenty of space to lose yourself in a book or contemplate the wilderness. Also featured is a fully kitted-out games room with table tennis, darts, pool, and foosball table, perfect for keeping the children entertained.

It’s all about the water at this rustic palace in the woods. Beyond the stellar fishing possibilities, there’s the stately Bath House (intended for a post-activity wind-down, but perhaps your wind-down will take the entire day?).

Housed within a light and airy room decorated with elk antlers, the Bath House features a centerpiece saltwater pool with a wall-sized window that opens to the elements for uninterrupted communing with nature. There’s a stone steam room, a sauna, a hot tub, and a full menu of spa treatments. Keep active with the well-stocked gym’s ellipticals, Peloton, free weights, pilates reformer, yoga mats, blocks, and straps.

Your needs here are truly catered for, whether settling in for a spa treatment, ordering an Old Fashioned from the horseshoe-shaped bar, or choosing lunch to be served in the field or at the indoor/outdoor restaurant. While you wait, you’ll smell freshly baked bread as the snowflakes drift down outside. The menu draws from local Rocky Mountain farm produce with each night bringing a new custom dining experience from the culinary team.
