Sukau Rainforest Lodge Jetty

LOCATION

In Sabah, Borneo, the Sukau Rainforest Lodge sits on the banks of the Kinabatangan River. One of Borneo’s most important waterways, it’s the ideal location from which to see the orangutans and explore the surrounding rainforest.

The villas come with en-suite bathrooms and space to relax, both inside and on your private deck. Built mostly from wood the villa’s interior is warm while the indigenous artworks on the wall and headboard add eye-catching accents.

You’ll find refreshments spread throughout the lodge, with the main Melapi Restaurant offering delicious Malaysian and tropical cuisine. The Gecko Lounge, meanwhile, is the perfect place to sit down with an animal-spotting book and a tea between excursions into the jungle.

WHY IS THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?

Its sustainability ethos has seen it rated as one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World and, best of all, its integrity doesn’t impact the shower temps.

The local animal life also seems very comfortable about coming close to the lodge. Expect an impromptu monkey spotting from your restaurant table or while taking a refreshing swim in the pool.
