HERO Namibia Sossuvlei Lodge Desert

Set among the mountains and desert of the NamibRand Nature Reserve in the Namib Desert, the Sossusvlei Lodge is a fabulous construction of glass and stone that wouldn’t look out of place in a Mad Max movie.

Offering ten sumptuous suites beneath its sharply angled, decoratively rusted rooftops, the lodge is set into a curving escarpment and looks out onto desert and mountain vistas. Plunge pools keep you cool in the scorching heat, while fireplaces in the luxurious sitting rooms keep the nighttime chill at bay. Private terraces and showers with a view ensure you’re always appreciating the stunning location. A two-bedroom Star Dune Suite adds the extra space required for a comfortable family group or similar.

Renovated in 2019, the architecture of the lodge has so successfully blended in with its surroundings that it’s just as eye-catching as the reserve.

But you’ll be drawn out by those fabulous vistas and keen to take a closer look at this beautiful but forbidding landscape roamed by leopards, hyenas, and black-backed jackals. The resort has 4×4’s, dune buggies, and a hot air balloon to fulfill your wishes.

Once you’ve returned after a full day and watched the sunset with a delicious wine-paired meal, it’s time to explore the sky. Surrounded by silence far from any city, you can embark on a sky-gazing adventure with the lodge’s professional astronomer at this International Dark Sky Reserve.
