Hero Sopris House Colorado

Sopris House is found in the storied mining town-turned laid-back ski resort of Crested Butte. This plush and characterful 1882 home was previously an infamous early 20th-century saloon called the Spritzer Bar. The sawdust has been swept away, although details such as the tin ceiling, a buffalo head mounted on the wall, and an original jukebox remains as testimony to its former life.

On the flip side, late 19th-century Spritzer Bar regulars would have been overjoyed with the home’s many modern upgrades, including hot tubs on the terraces for relaxing dips in the crisp Rocky Mountain air.

With only four rooms this intimate mountain sanctuary can be easily bought out so you can spend quality time in this mountain sanctuary with family and friends. There’s plenty of social space in the house—including a games room—although with Crested Butte a hub for mountain adventure you’ll be cutting your soak in the outdoor copper tub short to join the others heading for their outdoor fix.

In the summer you’re shooting down the mountains on your bike as you explore the largest single-track system in the US. Prefer time to breathe in your surroundings? Go hiking through the alpine meadows carpeted with seasonal mountain flowers.

Come when the snow is falling—typically 500 inches of fresh powder annually in Crested Butte—and you’re living in your skis. Warm up afterward in the en-suite steam showers before another game of poker downstairs, confident that every last detail of tomorrow is already in hand.
