With its incredible lakeside position, Pumulani is perfectly situated for getting the most out of Lake Malawi National Park. Take in the sweeping views while relaxing on your deck or head into the water to see its myriad fish species.
Why we love it
The sunset sailing expedition really brings out the lake’s magic: with the sky turning peach and pink, sail out on a traditional dhow with a delicious dinner and drinks while a stowaway stargazer points out constellations to you as evening falls over this ‘lake of stars’.
With only ten villas, even at maximum occupancy the resort’s golden beach never feels crowded.
In the south of Lake Malawi, on the western side of the Nankumba Peninsula, Pumulani is a cluster of ten spacious villas set into the verdant lakeshore. The luxurious rooms are chic and South African in flavor, with wicker armchairs, double monsoon showers, and decadently deep baths. There’s also a private deck with panoramic lake views from which you can envy the pied kingfishers diving into the clear water.
The resort is in tiers, with a pathway leading down from the villas to a communal infinity pool, and a final set of stairs taking you to a lakeside beach and a well-placed bar. If that seems like too much walk, the staff can be summoned in a golf buggy to take you where you need to go. At night the excellent restaurant is lit with candles and offers lovely views of the lake.
