LOCATION

Seemingly in the heart of the bush, yet nestled in an oasis of luxury and comfort, Phinda Rock is perfectly situated for a diverse experience of South Africa. Dramatically set into a cliff face, the six intimate and private suites provide breathtaking panoramic views of the Phinda Private Games Reserve. Exclusive suites are adorned with cozy firelights, stylish slate color décor and flecks of tasteful animal prints. Rich interiors reflect the serene beauty of the wild outside.

Phinda Rock Lodge creates the experience of feeling immersed in nature from dawn until dusk, cushioned with luxury. Wake up to native birdsong, then take a dip in the plunge pool as you overlook the lush Zuzuland valley. Take a walk on the wild side with one of the many iconic safari tours of the Big Five, expertly informed by a local guide. Cool off from the heat of the day in the outdoor shower, then enjoy an alfresco dining experience under the South African stars.

WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?

Not only a unique close encounter with nature, Phinda Rock offers cultural experiences within the heart of the community. Collaborating with Africa Foundation and &Beyond, Phinda Rock Private Game Reserve supports local community projects in hospitals and schools. Learn from the histories, sacred beliefs, and fascinating tradition of the locals from a nearby Zulu village. Discover the routines of family life and meet with important figures in the community, the witch doctor and healer. Explore the colorful life and joy of the nearby communities, as you can have a real impact on people’s lives.

You’ll also have the opportunity to sight some rare and iconic wildlife. The lodge has reclaimed 73,000 acres of farming land for wildlife, including just under 2,000 acres of critically endangered sand forest. Thanks to these efforts, it’s made a name for itself as one of the country’s most successful rewinding and conservation projects, including protecting the shrinking lion population. Across this vast landscape guests will find seven distinct habitats, and the limited number of vehicles and sensitive off-road practises affords close-up sightings of the Big Five.
