HERO RWANDA One and Only Nyungwe

LOCATION

The red roof of One&Only Nyungwe House is submerged in the rainforest canopy at the western extent of the Nyungwe forest, only twenty minutes drive from the park’s main entry point.

Designed to blend with its natural surroundings while also distinctively Rwandan in style, the resort offers cozy rooms with four-poster beds, dark bamboo flooring, and geometric African artwork on the walls. Private balconies supply wonderful views of the monkeys clambering through the treetops, while the wooden stove keeps off any chill and the deep bathtub helps soothe trek-tired limbs.

Rwandan cuisine is showcased in the restaurant with Executive Chef Treasure Makwinise personalizing the sustainable farm-to-table menu to your tastes every evening. The meals in the Dining Room, with its warming fireplace, come paired with South African wines and wonderful views of the surrounding nature through floor-to-ceiling windows.

WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?

With its location among the tea plantations, Nyungwe House places an emphasis on that aromatic product. There’s a sophisticated tea lounge where you can attend seminars that detail the process of fermentation, drying, and tasting. A freshly brewed cup of tea with assorted African biscuits helps to ensure that the learning sticks.

Other activities include bomas (cultural experiences paired with dinner) around the outdoor fire pits and guests are welcome to try their hand at spear throwing.
