Location

Nestled in the northwest of the Scottish Highlands, Lundies House is in a remote yet incredibly beautiful part of Scotland with commanding views of castle ruins, the Kyle of Tongue, and the mountains beyond.

Design

Deeply rooted in its history, the exteriors stay true to the original 17th-century Scottish form with stone walls and slate roofs, but inside the blend of Scottish and Scandi aesthetic creates a homely and calming environment.

The main house features three double bedrooms and an apartment on the top floor ideal for those looking for a little more space and privacy. Elsewhere, outbuildings have been converted and remodelled to provide three additional courtyard rooms and a two-bedroom self-catering apartment, perfectly appointed for larger families or groups. Whichever you choose, each bedroom comes with its own individual charm, with soft linens, marble fireplaces, and spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

Cuisine

Following the same inspiration as the décor, the Dining Room serves Highland-meets-Nordic cuisine with a strong emphasis on local produce (think freshly shucked oysters and locally sourced game meat). There are no menus here, just a daily changing three- or four-course dinner offering. Also on the plate you can expect fresh sourdough from their kitchen, herbs and vegetables from their garden, and foraged ingredients from the Tongue forests.

Activities

Lundies House is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding landscape and wider area. There are plenty of hikes suited to all levels – be it climbing Scotland’s most northerly Munro, Ben Hope, or a leisurely stroll around the historical ruin of Castle Varrich. The property also offers e-bikes which you can take to explore the unspoilt sandy beaches along the coastline, with wetsuits on hand for wild swimming and surfing.

For slower days, enjoy a massage in the comfort of your room or a morning yoga session. Or, curl up in the sitting room with a homemade kombucha or out by the fire in the courtyard with a glass of local gin.

Why we love it

A former manse (clergy house), Lundies House has been lovingly restored and is now a charming contemporary boutique hotel. Artfully combining Nordic and Highland influences to create ‘Scandi-Scot’, the refined interiors and profound sense of comfort have created something truly special here in this hidden part of the Highlands, something that you’ll want to return to time and again.
