HERO Morocco Villa Des Orangers

LOCATION

La Villa des Orangers is found just beyond the walls of the Medina in colorful Marrakesh. Inhabiting the footstep of a traditional Moroccan riad, it’s an elegant space with two interior courtyards lined with ornate tiles, palms, and orange trees.

If you can bring yourself to leave the genteel fragranced ambiance of the outside spaces, the gorgeous colonial-chic rooms are lovely with their finely crafted Moroccan furniture, gold embroidery, and warm leather chairs. The rooms look out on the courtyard, while the upstairs suites come with private terraces with views over the Medina.

In keeping with the colonial element, the restaurant offers a heavily French-influenced menu—think foie gras and langoustine fricassee—or you can plump for the spice and sweetness of a Moroccan-inspired menu instead. Both options are dangerously delicious.

WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?

It’s an almost Narnia-esque escape as you pass through its carved doors from the riotous color of the Medina and into the serenity of the garden’s trickling fountain and fragranced air.

The hotel also offers the menu of services that you’d expect of a larger property, and in the more intimate dimensions of the riad. That includes a full-service concierge, a 60ft main pool (generous considering the property’s size), an underground hammam, a superb spa with an extensive menu of authentically Moroccan treatments, and a bijou gym.
