Immerse yourself in Chiang Rai’s unique culture while seeing the region’s magnificent wildlife at this sumptuous resort in northernmost Thailand. Perched on a bamboo forested hillside, this luxury tented camp offers far-reaching views into neighboring Laos and Myanmar.
Within the 15 tents, you’ll find handsome interiors drawing on an African safari palette. Think warm leather chairs, handsome hand-carved furniture, and an outdoor rain shower (although a hand-hammered tub can be found in the living area).
Rooting the space in its locale are Thai textiles and local artwork arranged on the walls. On your treetop veranda, there’s also a wooden hot tub from which to enjoy the verdant Laotian mountain view beyond.
WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?
Its ostensibly set up for interactions with this retreat’s rehabilitated elephants and their experienced mahouts, although there’s a menu of activities that should satisfy even the most adventurous. Cruise the Mekong, visit local temples, and forage with a botanist in the bamboo forest nearby.
It’s also possible to eat in the elephant camp as well, by candlelight and surrounded by pachyderms, with your dinner of Laotian, Thai, and Burmese specialties making for an extremely memorable meal.
