LOCATION
Located in its own conservancy on the Laikipia Plateau in Kenya, a stay at Borana Lodge offers the chance to marry warm, luxurious hospitality with a visit to the country’s most successful rhino sanctuary.
The eco-lodge was constructed by local craftsmen working with the Dyer family, the lodge and conservancy operator. A rustic yet elegant style predominates among the collection of thatched stone cottages arrayed about the lodge’s well-manicured gardens.
The African-inflected interiors are inviting with bright fabrics and spacious en-suites with wonderful views. Relax on a private deck, sundowner in hand, and watch the denizens of the conservancy make their way to and from the waterhole for their own aperitifs.
WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?
Stay at Borana for a chance to access Kenya’s newest rhino sanctuary, and to enjoy delicious cuisine made using produce from the lodge’s Waitabit Farm permaculture project—East Africa’s largest.
At the main house, sink into the generous sofas and enjoy the view out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Meals—taking place in the elegant dining room or the al fresco lunch pavilion—are produced with the lodge’s farm-to-table approach.
After savoring the delicious cuisine (and equally delicious views over the conservancy from the pavilion) experience the farm firsthand. Gain an understanding of the project and combine the visit with a freshly foraged riverbank lunch.
As dusk falls, sit around the open fireplace in the main house swapping your safari sightings of the day.
