bisate lodge rwanda

LOCATION

Bisate Lodge is perhaps one of the most unique properties out there and is the ideal destination for wildlife and conservation enthusiasts. From the outside, this eco-retreat looks like a giant bird’s nest tucked into the trees and it has made its name as Rwanda’s most stand-out and luxurious retreat. Set among just over 100 acres of land with views over Mount Bisoke, the property is located within the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone (‘bisate’ means ‘pieces’ in Kinyarwanda).

WHAT MAKES THIS LODGE UNIQUE?

Intrepid travelers can choose from a whole host of activities here. From golden monkey trekking, visiting the ruins of Karisoke (primatologist Dian Fossey’s former research centre dedicated to saving gorillas from extinction) and hiking to the top of Mount Bisoke for panoramic views of the rainforest.

Floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to enjoy the jungle views while enjoying a hearty dinner fusing traditional and international flavors. Using produce mostly grown onsite, the culinary creations showcase ingredients like wild honey, papaya, chillies and climbing beans. But for many a highlight is the coffee: enjoy a tasting with their barista as you listen to the stories behind their production.
