Exterior of Arctic Treehouse in Winter Snow Finland

LOCATION

In Rovaniemi, high in Northern Finland’s forested and hilly arctic wilderness, the Arctic Treehouse Hotel is a supreme act of conscientious Scandinavian design. The hotel’s main building is shaped like a snowflake, while the treehouses are tucked into the landscape on a wooded hillside.

Each treehouse is a boxy structure raised on stilts with the side facing the view essentially an entire floor-to-ceiling window through which to gaze out at the landscape. Nordic neutrals and warm ambient lighting make for a calm interior, and each treehouse is equipped with a kitchenette. Some of the larger options also come with fireplaces, hot tubs, and a Finnish sauna.

WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL UNIQUE?

It’s a unique take on treehouse accommodation, perfect for those who love restrained and elegant Nordic design. Its setting is also perfect for adventures in the snow, whether cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, or taking a dog sled across the pristine powder.

The cuisine at Rakas Restaurant and Bar is a menu of Finnish heritage that blends perfectly the hearty heritage of this snowbound region with New Nordic sophistication. A superb wine list (or house pale ale) ensures that you have exactly the right match for your flambéed beef (accompanied with reindeer-horn powder) while dining beneath Rakas’ pine cone-shaped lights.
