In Rovaniemi, high in Northern Finland’s forested and hilly arctic wilderness, the Arctic Treehouse Hotel is a supreme act of conscientious Scandinavian design. The hotel’s main building is shaped like a snowflake, while the treehouses are tucked into the landscape on a wooded hillside.
Each treehouse is a boxy structure raised on stilts with the side facing the view essentially an entire floor-to-ceiling window through which to gaze out at the landscape. Nordic neutrals and warm ambient lighting make for a calm interior, and each treehouse is equipped with a kitchenette. Some of the larger options also come with fireplaces, hot tubs, and a Finnish sauna.
